One theory of the ultimate quantum nature of spacetime that piqued my interest early on in my “studies” is called Loop Quantum Gravity.  As I understand it, space is “granular” (not continuous) and comprises a sort of energy loop chain mail that extends to the edge of the Universe and out of which the notion of Time emerges.
