I think this is my first thistle painting. In fact, it is one of the first paintings of my self-proclaimed Fine Artist 2.0 period.  I had begun hiking in the canyon regularly and these giant weeds were one of the few spots of color in a sea of green and brown.plus, I like the contrast between the pointy, sharp, protective husk and the delicate explosion of violet tendrils.
